The Westerville Central soccer team defeated Westerville North Wednesday night to advance to the District Championship match to be played Saturday, October 25, 7 pm vs Olentangy Liberty. The game will be played at Gahanna Lincoln High School.
Before a boisterous crowd the Warhawks fought back from an early 1-0 deficit to tie the score at 1 on a penalty kick by Chewy Gordon with 9 minutes left in the 2nd half. The score would remain tied through the remainder of regulation and through two 15 minute overtime periods. During the shoot-out each team scored on their first five attempts. In the 6th round of the shoot-out, goal keeper Zane Hamoui made a diving save. That save set the stage for Scott McNenny who buried his shot to send the Warhawks to victory.
The win raises the Warhawks record to 13-5-1 and sends the team to its 5th consecutive district championship game.
