The Westerville Central boys basketball team was able to overcome a 10 point second half deficit to defeat the visiting Olentangy Orange Pioneers 56-47.
A 22 point first quarter propelled the guests to a 33-24 late in the half but Central’s Josh McDaniel hit a 3-point shot just before the buzzer to make the score 33-27 at the break. Midway through the third the Pioneers pushed the lead to 40-30. A long 3-pointer by Terrance Lang and tip by Solomon Wells got the Warhawks rolling on what would become a 17-2 run and a 47-42 lead. Central was able to control the ball and hit free throws in the closing minutes to secure the 9 point win. Lang led the Warhawks with a career high 19, while McDaniel and Gage Minney chipped in with 12 points each.
The Warhawks return to action Tuesday hosting Olentangy.
