The girls basketball team continued its winning ways with a 58-41 victory over New Albany. The Warhawks broke out to an early 17-7 lead on key baskets from Casey George and Najayah Shepherd. The Eagles hit a lay-up and a 3 point goal in the closing seconds of the quarter to make the score 17-12 after the first. Central came out hot again in the second quarter outscoring the host team 17-7 to take a 34-19 lead to the locker room. New Albany played inspired in the 2nd half but could not get any closer than 9 points and the Warhawks prevailed 58-41. The win raises the Warhawks to 8-1 on the season while New Albany drops to 8-3. Shepherd led all scorers with 21, George chipped in with. Mabinty Kebe came off the bench to score 13 and point guard McKayla Brenning added eight. The Warhawks return home Friday for a key OCC Buckeye Division battle with Olentangy Liberty.
The Warhawks gymnastics team was also in action last night hosting Dublin Jerome, Olentangy and Big Walnut. Gianna Brooks picked up an individual win in the Vault and also won the All-Around competition. The team will be in action Saturday at the Worthington Kilbourne Invitational.
