The Warhawks boys basketball team hosted Olentangty Liberty Friday needing a win to stay in contention for a league runner-up finish. After a back and forth first half the Patriots took a commanding 49-40 lead late in the 3rd quarter. Central, however, would go on to finish the game on a 29-2 run to capture a 69-51 win. The Warhawks stifling defense would hold the Patriots without a field goal in the 4th quarter as Liberty’s two points came on free throws.
Thomas Hickman led the way for Central with 24 points – including 6 in the final period. Cam Schroeder added 13, Chaz Dixon had 11 and Dylan Edens and Solomon Wells both chipped in with 8.
The Warhawks are 13-7 for the season and 5-4 in Buckeye Division play. The team has a home non-league contest Tuesday versus Licking Heights and will take to the road Friday travelling to Westerville to take on the South Wildcats.
The Central District Athletic Board conducted the boys basketball tournament draw yesterday and the Warhawks were selected as the 11th seed and will open tournament play with a home contest Saturday February 24 at 1:00 pm against Delaware Hayes. Click here for the tournament bracket.
