The Warhawk softball team captured its 2nd consecutive district championship Saturday with a 12-0 win over Upper Arlington. The win raises Central’s record to 26-2 and advances them to this week’s regional tournament.
Junior pitcher Emily Ruck scattered 4 hits over 6 innings to pick up the win. An outstanding defensive play in the 6th inning preserved the shut-out. With the bases loaded and one out junior left fielder Cami Compson caught a fly ball and fired a strike to catcher Lily Linke who applied the tag to the Golden Bear runner trying to score from third base.
With the Warhawks leading 3-0 in the 3rd, senior 2nd baseman Kylie Collins broke the game open with a grand slam home run and with the score at 9-0 in the bottom of the 6th Danielle Ingram smacked a 3-run homer for the walk-off, run rule victory.
Next up for Central is Grove City in Wednesday’s Regional Semi-Final. That game will be played Wednesday, May 22 at 2:00 pm at Ohio State.
