Warhawks News · Softball Wins Regional Title, Headed To Final 4!

The Warhawk softball captured the Regional championship Saturday with a thrilling 3-2 win over previously undefeated Mt. Vernon.  The win raises Central’s record to 28-2 and advances them to the State tournament Friday in Akron.

The Warhawks led 2-0 after 5 innings…..Lexi Recinella homered in the 2nd and Danielle Ingram knocked in Cami Compson in the 5th.  The Yellow Jackets battled back with 2 runs in the 6th to tie the score.  With two outs in the bottom of the 7th and Emily O’Dee on 1st, senior Avrey Schumacher stepped to the plate and smacked a double to the right center field gap.  O’Dee raced around to score the winning run and sending Central its 1st state tournament appearance.

Emily Ruck pitched 7 innings, struck out 10 to win her 21st game of the season.

The state semifinal game will be played Friday at Akron’s Firestone Field at 10:00 am versus Lakota East.  Click here for more information about the tournament and the state tournament bracket.
